Anthony was born with spina bifida, but it went undiagnosed until he was twelve years old. By then, he had developed kidney damage as a result of the spina bifida that progressed slowly over the next ten years. In 2023, Anthony had a massive stroke, from which he has largely recovered. However, unfortunately, since the stroke, Anthony's kidney failure has gotten much worse and he will need to start dialysis soon. He is on the UNOS waiting list for a cadaver kidney, but if he must wait for that it will be at least four more years and he will lose ten years of life expectancy.
Our immediate family and closest friends have been eliminated as potential donors so we are looking for someone willing to become a live kidney donor (we all have a spare!) and if you can't please share our appeal with your own network of friends and family. Blood type doesn't matter, we just need a healthy donor.
For more information, please contact Anthony's mother at debpfl2023@gmail.com or the Stony Brook Kidney Transplant team (631-444-2209) and tell them that you want to be evaluated as a living donor for Anthony Diesu.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Anthony's Family.
